IntroductionPre-Season

It was always going to be tough starting the season, going from those pre-season fixtures to competitive football… I didn’t think it’d be this tough.

King’s Lynn Town

It was a win, a loss and a draw over in Norfolk. The side took the lead against Southend United via Malachi Linton against the run of play and held it to put three points on the board early doors. Linton is on loan from Wycombe Wanderers. Paul Jones, not that one, saved a Gorman penalty against Yeovil before new signing Kenan Dünnwald-Turan came off crocked. Jones’ heroics turned out to be for nothing as Adi Yussuf notched the winner for Yeovil Town, who enjoyed 29 shots to our 7. Ken Charles opened the scoring as King’s Lynn took on Chesterfield with Danny Rowe and Kabongo Tshimanga in their side but Tom Whelan equalised late in the day.

Weymouth FC

Disciplinary problems were amongst the headlines as Weymouth recorded a 0 – 0 draw in their opening game against Boreham Wood as five Weymouth players were booked. Grimsby Town put Weymouth to the sword at Blundell Park. The hosts could have scored several more than the 3 – 0 scoreline with Jon McAtee going through the Terras like an x-ray through hot custard. Maidenhead, fresh off a game against Dover Athletic, turned into prime Barcelona under Pep in the last game of the month as they cantered to a 1 – 0 win. I could feel Brad Ash’s glare on the back of my head from his position on the bench as Greenidge tried to go round the Maidenhead goalkeeper unsuccessfully FOUR BLOODY TIMES. What’s that Jordan? Why do I want you to get me something from that dark cellar with the rickety unreliable stairs? Get down there man.

Dover Athletic

It was a gutsy performance against Solihull Moors in the season opener, we looked to have locked in a goalless draw but then James Clarke chucked himself to the floor in a blatant dive and Adam Rooney dispatched a late penalty. Dover then went on to survive six minutes of added time to secure a 2 – 1 triumph over Maidenhead with on-loan striker Taylor-Croasdale on the scoresheet. A two-goal lead at half-time against Boreham Wood was very unexpected and soon corrected by the Football Manager Gods. They must have been irritated following the draw with Weymouth. The away side got back into it via Tyrone Marsh and Koby Arthur missed a host of chances. Having scored for Dover, Michael Gyasi was sent off on 74 minutes and Travis Gregory followed him in added time after stopping a certain equaliser. Gregory was the last man as Boreham Wood flowed forward, he took one for the team and the free-kick was blazed over. Six points in August, the best return of the three clubs.
